Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas, speaking in Rhodes at the 9th session of the Panhellenic Medical Association and local medical boards, stressed that public health on the islands has both national and geopolitical importance. He highlighted the need for year-round healthcare coverage for both residents and visitors.
He pointed to positive developments like the €2,100/month incentive for doctors on remote islands and proposed a new framework of incentives: recalculated hardship allowances, double points for service, fast-track to medical specialties, and housing through municipal properties. He emphasized that the fiscal cost of these measures is lower than the cost of deficiencies, noting over 3,500 airlifts annually costing more than €70 million.
