Kalymnos will mark May 9, the anniversary of the end of World War II, with a series of official events honoring the Greek National Resistance (1941–1944). The day has been officially designated as a nationwide commemoration.
According to the official program, flags will be raised across the island from 8:00 a.m. until sunset. At 11:00 a.m., a formal doxology service will be held at the Metropolitan Church of Christ the Savior, attended by local authorities and the Metropolitan Bishop of Kalymnos, Leros, and Astypalaia. A ceremonial speech will follow, with honors rendered by a military detachment and the municipal philharmonic band.
At 11:30 a.m., a memorial service will take place at the Fallen Heroes Monument in the central square, followed by wreath-laying ceremonies by officials. The events will conclude with the illumination of public buildings and institutions.
Local authorities, representatives of organizations, and citizens are invited to attend and pay tribute to those who fought and sacrificed during the occupation.
