From July 1st, 2025, and for an unknown period of time, there will be no general practitioner on active emergency duty!
The sense of safety for the residents of Patmos has once again hit rock bottom!
This disruption coincided with the arrival of two cruise ships on the island on the same day, carrying nearly 2,500 visitors — in addition to the local population and the general tourist influx, which increases dramatically during the summer months. The lack of basic medical coverage under such circumstances poses a serious risk to public health and the safety of both residents and visitors.
Ensuring 24-hour operation of the Health Center with the presence of essential medical specialties is the minimum obligation of the State towards an island population, which faces increased needs and limited alternative access to secondary healthcare structures.
A cry of anguish also comes from former Mayor of Patmos, Lefteris Pentes, who has already lodged complaints with the 2nd Health District Authority (YPE), specifically addressing its Director, Mr. Ch. Roilos.
Response? NONE.
We ask sincerely: Do we even have MPs representing the Dodecanese?
On this occasion, I wish a speedy recovery to the ND MP of the Dodecanese, Mr. Ioannis Pappas. However, I cannot refrain from politically criticizing his recent statement.
He stated, more or less, that “the National Health System is changing and improving every day.”
Is he truly proud of the fact that on the island of Patmos — his own electoral district — there is not a single doctor available to treat patients?
Naturally, during the recent planned visit of the Prime Minister to the island, three doctors were suddenly appointed to staff the Health Center.
As soon as that visit was canceled, the doctors disappeared — along with all hope!
The Ministry of Health and the 2nd Health District Authority must provide a solution IMMEDIATELY, before we mourn any victims!
