Sokratis Famellos Visits Rentis and Varvakios Market – SYRIZA-PS Proposals to Tackle Rising Prices
SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance president Sokratis Famellos visited the Central Markets and Fisheries Organization (OKAA) in Rentis and the Varvakios fish market, where he met with traders and fishermen to discuss rising costs and declining turnover.
During the visits, he presented the party’s key proposals to address inflation and high food prices, including suspending VAT on essential goods, establishing a price observatory from producer to consumer, reducing operating costs for small and medium-sized businesses, and strengthening citizens’ purchasing power.
Famellos argued that high prices are harming consumers, traders, and small businesses alike, noting that turnover at Varvakios Market has dropped by up to 40%. He stressed the need for stronger state oversight, market transparency, and measures against profiteering, while reiterating proposals to increase incomes through collective agreements, restore the 13th pension and additional public sector salaries, and improve access to financing and microcredit for traders.
Party officials and MPs accompanied the visit, while meetings were also held with OKAA administration representatives and market stakeholders.
